Professor Mohammed Nasir Shuaibu

While enrolled in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Nagasaki University, Prof. Mohammed Nasir SHUAIBU established the Nagasaki University Foreign Students Association (NUFSA), creating the first international student community at the university. During his time at Nagasaki University, he was actively engaged in support activities to enhance the international student experiences. He founded a Saturday soccer club where international and Japanese students could become closer through playing soccer. His legacy is very much alive even after his departure from Japan and the groups he has created remain important support networks for international students at Nagasaki University.

In September 2023, he began preparations to establish a Nagasaki University Global Alumni Network (NUGAN) chapter for Nigerian alumni, and by February 2024, he launched a continent-level chapter for African in collaboration with alumni from Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Zambia. His efforts have significantly contributed to the NUGAN’s expansion.

In recognition of his contributions, Prof. Shuaibu was formally appointed as a NUGAN Ambassador at a ceremony held at Nagasaki University on October 9, 2024. He expressed deep honor and gratitude for the appointment, stating that he hopes to continue building relationships across Africa and maintain a strong connection with Nagasaki University.
